Most messages get an answer within two business days. If something is broken, say which iPhone and which iOS version you're on, and include the version number from Me → ⚙︎ → About — it pins down exactly which build you have. Don't send a menu photograph unless it is the point of the report, and never send one with other diners in it.
What usually goes wrong
Every dish says “[Demo]”
The service has no model key configured, so it is serving a canned sample menu rather than reading yours. That is a state of the service, not of your phone — nothing you can fix from the app, and it clears when the service does. Me → ⚙︎ → Menu Service shows whether it is Connected or on demo menus. If it stays on demo menus for more than a day, tell me.
The scan failed
Scanning needs a connection: the menu is read by the service, not on the phone, so a café with no signal means no scan. Foretaste never quietly serves you a sample menu instead — a failed scan says it failed, and offers to try again. If it keeps failing on a good connection, check the Menu Service screen for “Unreachable”.
“You've reached this app's scanning limit”
There is a daily cap per install, because every scan costs the service real money. The message tells you how long to wait. It is counted against an anonymous per-install ID, not against you.
No dish pictures, or a photo where I expected a drawing
Every dish visual is labelled with where it came from: AI-generated, a reference photo, or a placeholder. If image generation is off — either your switch in Menu Service, or the service having no image model — you get the reference photo or the placeholder instead, correctly labelled. Foretaste will not present a stock photograph as a drawing of your dish, or the reverse.
A dish was translated wrong
It happens: a model is reading a photograph of print, sometimes handwritten, sometimes at an angle in bad light. A sharper, straighter, better-lit photograph of the same menu is usually a better read. Send me the picture and what it should have said and I will use it to improve the prompt.
Allergies
Ingredient and allergen lists are a language model's reading of a menu photograph. Treat them as a place to start a conversation with the restaurant, never as a clearance. Foretaste keeps allergies apart from foods you merely avoid so the safety wording never gets diluted, and it will not badge a dish as recommended if it raises a heads-up for anyone at your table — but the only thing that actually knows what is in the kitchen's sauce is the kitchen. Ask.
How do I delete my data?
Me → ⚙︎ → Reset Foretaste erases every saved scan and dish picture, everyone at your table, and every setting, then starts the app over on the walkthrough. Deleting the app does the same and takes the anonymous install ID with it. Neither is recoverable, because none of it was ever on a server to restore from. The privacy policy has the full account of what is where.
Requirements
iPhone running iOS 18.6 or later. Foretaste needs the camera (or your photo library) to get the menu, and a network connection to read it.
Feature requests and bugs
Same address — support@wxy.one. Requests that come with the story of the meal they would have saved tend to get built first.
